Ecco Restaurant, Subiaco

Stumble across Ecco Restaurant on a late busy Friday night. After shopping in the city til 9 o'clock, we were sick of dining in the city nor Northbridge, so we head over to Subi in search for hidden gem. Walked past a fair few restaurant along Rokeby Rd and then we saw Ecco and Santa Fe, they were both pretty crowded that night, somehow there were a large group of loud customer in Santa Fe, so we opted for Ecco! And thank god for that.

Ecco in Subi is very small, tables were cramped together, but you can sense that they are serving some really good food here. A mini wood-fired oven at the back of the restaurant, black board or a mirror with interesting special written on, a few small tables on the pedestrian for those who wanted to be outdoor, warm lighting and warm smile you get from the staff. I like it! It's intimate, it's crowded but not too noisy, it's alive!

Had a pizza and wood fired crispy octopus to share with my mate, the crispy octopus turn out to be sensational, it was crispy on the outside and as soft as marshmellow on the inside, it just melt straight into my throat. Despite it being so tender as if it just go straight down to my throat, the flavour that go through my palate was enormous as if I'm sitting on a roller coaster ride. I guess they braised and marinate their octopus before finish cooking in the wood fired oven, thus the crispyness. This is by far the best octopus I've had, as you don't get the greasiness you normally would if it were to be fried.

Pizza was great too, we ordered one with olives, capsicum, cacciatore sausage and potato slice. The pizza base was nicely thin and crispy, moreover it have some texture to it too and not too chewy, exactly how I would like to eat! You get to choose whether you prefer a plain flour pizza base or wholemeal pizza base, we wanted to try the wholemeal base, but we forgotten to inform the waitress and they didn't ask either. Other than that, it was all good, it was a busy night and yet they are still able to pump out some really good food here.

Overall, it is a nice place to go to in Subiaco and it doesn't cost you a bomb. Their service was friendly and attentive but not interruptive.  Do drop by and check out their special of the day! If Subiaco is way out of your way, you may drop by Ecco in Fremantle too!

Food Quality: 3.5 outta 5
Service: 3.5 outta 5
Ambience: 3.5 outta 5
Will I be back: Yes I would! Will definately be back for the octopus
